Terminology


The following Terms and Phrases should be considered as having the associated meanings when used in the context of WSYSA District II. Note that you can retrieve any of these definitions anywhere on the site where you see a small gray question mark next to the Term* by clicking on it.

Administrator
A User charged with the overall responsibility for the general operation and management of the Site
Assignment
As a noun, it identifies the relationship between a specific Match Position and a Referee. As a verb, it refers to the steps and actions necessary to create the relationship between a specific Match Position and a Referee.
Association
A WSYSA recognized administrative organization grouped within various Districts. EYSA, LWYSA, NYSA, and SnVYSA are the District II defined Associations
Browser
A program operating in a Visitor's system somewhere on the Internet that has asked for a Page from a Server.
Coach
The Adult responsible for the tactical and general operation of a District II Team!
Directory
A "white pages" list of Users involved with WSYSAD2.ORG. Each entry provides the name of the User. A User can change/add/delete his or her information in their individual Profile, as well as manage what information is available about them in the Directory.
District II
An abbreviation for WSYSA District II (pronounced as "district two"). The letters "District II" represent a reference to the general business operational elements of the WSYSA District II.
Division
Is the identification of the specific grouping of Teams within a League and Level that identifies a single playing schedule where each Team plays the other during a particular period (season, tournament, etc.). A Division is typically just Team's grouped for scheduling purposes
Event
A single calendar based activity that may be of interest to a WSYSAD2 User
Field
A specific Playing surface where a Match may be scheduled
Inquiry
The act of asking for a particular subset of items from the website database. E.G. you can execute an Inquiry to obtain a list of Matches meeting a specific criteria subset.
League
A collection of Matches between Teams assigned competitive Levels, Divisions, and applicable Rules by a single sanctioning Authority.
Level
A structural grouping of teams, which is generally administrative and usually age based (as in U15, U16, etc.)
Location
The facility name and street address for one or more Fields
Match
A scheduled competition between two Teams
Officer
A User that has been selected to serve on the Board of Directors and represent District II participants.
Organization
An administrative group responsible for the administrative tasks associated with one or more Teams
Page
Represents the resulting HTML from a PHP Script's execution AND all the accompanying elements (.GIF, .JPG, .CSS, etc. files).

Each Page from each the website has a URL, and an identifying Name.

Position
A particular Referee Assignment for a Match. There can be up to 5 Positions for each Match. The Positions include: Referee, AR1, AR2, 4th Official, and Assessor. They can be abbreviated as follows: Ref, AR1, AR2, 4th, and Ase.
Profile
The area where you can store your personal information for the WSYSAD2 website. You are able to determine what will appear in the Directory about you via the Services: Profile page
Referee
A User that has obtained the necessary license and/or permission to officiate at a Match. E.G. Typically this is the USSF that licenses individuals to officiate at appropriately sanctioned Matches
Role
The specific areas of authority within the website including: Officer, Referee, Assignor, etc. Each User can be assigned one or more Roles. Basically, your Role(s) determines the Website Areas that you can see and use.
Segment
A named portion of the Site that collects functions and pages related to a specific Role in a common portion of the site.
Server
Identifies a physical RidgeStar system operating a copy of the Apache HTTP Daemon that responds to Internet based requests for service.
Session
Defined by PHP. Essentially, uniquely identifies a single Browser's interaction with a single PHP based website.
Site
The specific combination of files containing script (PHP) and graphics (JPG, GIF) available through the HTTP protocol that are combined to meet the WSYSA District II requirements and is available on the Web at
SiteName
The combination of your First Name and Last Name that uniquely identifies you to WSYSAD2.ORG. Your SiteName must be unique within District II!
Source
Identifies the organization that is responsible for assigning and managing the Date, Time, and Field for a Match
System
Used to describe the basic operating system enviroment of a Visitor, Browser, or Server.
Team
identifies a single group of Players that are participating in a League and scheduled Matches
Term
A word or series of words that represents a specific element, activity, role, action, etc. when used in the context of WSYSAD2.org.
Text Format
You can control how the information you enter is displayed by using one or more of the following elements surrounded by brackets [ or ] within the text string you enter:

iMake the next word entered italicized when displayed
pCreate a new Paragraph beginning with the next word
{color}where {color} can be: Black, Purple, Silver, Fuchsia, Navy, Gray, Green, Blue, White, Lime, Teal, Maroon, Olive, Aqua, Red, or Yellow
dus...Displays current field value from the User's Profile (e.g. dusFirstName, etc.)
Time
Typically used to indicate a specific Time of Day (local time zone). When used in a Criteria box, "Morning" means between 12:01am and 11:59am, "Midday" means 10:00am to 4:00pm, "Afternoon" means 12:00pm to 5:00pm, and "Evening" means 5:01pm to 11:59pm
User
is a single individual that has permission to access WSYSAD2.org and interact with it in one or more Roles
Visitor
A person who is viewing/using WSYSAD2.org, but has not logged on. Visitors can only access pages in the Public Segments of the Site.
WSYSAD2.ORG
A reference to the collection of graphics, pages, and functions that are operational on the World Wide Web as the WSYSA District II's Site.
